Top guns in first aid meet

Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows cadets show they have the right stuff

The members of the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows air cadets tested their life-saving skills against cadets from across the Lower Mainland, and showed they’ve got the right stuff.

The 583 Coronation Squadron hosted the regional first aid competition for the third year in a row on Saturday.

They went up against 30 other teams from air, army and sea cadets corps from across Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

There were 124 cadets taking part.

The senior Coronation Squadron team took first place, top guns out of 15 teams, and will now go on to the provincial championships.

The junior team placed a respectable fifth out of 16 junior teams.

The competition was judged by volunteers from the Maple Ridge Fire Department, B.C. Ambulance Service, and the Maple Ridge RCMP.

The 583 Coronation Squadron is active throughout the school year, meeting Thursday evenings from 6:15 to 9:15 p.m. at the Albion Fairgrounds (23448 105th Avenue), and is open to youth aged 12-18.
