Julia Chiasson of Maple Ridge was presented with a certificate by Mayor Nicole Read at the Feb. 23 council meeting to recognize her long-time involvement with the War Amps and for spreading important messages in the community.

Julia, born a partial left hand amputee, is a member of the War Amps Child Amputee Program (CHAMP).

She attends CHAMP seminars as a junior counsellor, answering questions and offering advice to younger amputees.

She also helps spread the association’s PLAYSAFE message, as she has met children who have lost limbs in accidents that could have been prevented.

Julia also passes on the remembrance message to the younger generation through the War Amps Operation Legacy.
