A free event for grandparents who are supporting or parenting their grandchildren with mental health challenges is coming up this Wednesday.

On Jan. 19, from 10-11 a.m. there will be a free, informal virtual workshop put on by the Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Katzie Seniors Network.

It can be tough going through the hard stuff with a child or youth who is struggling with their mental health and ending up in crisis. FamilySmart, is a non-profit organization that supports caregivers in these situations. A parent peer support worker can help grandparents who are raising or supporting grandchildren. Participants will learn about free resources and services that support grandparents, discover how to navigate those resources, and find reliable information to guide them.

Grandparents will have the opportunity to register for additional free on-going support with a Parent Peer Support Worker. This is an informal, interactive presentation with lots of opportunities to ask questions.
