Polls now closed in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows

Polls are now closed in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows for the 2024 provincial election.

A record breaking 1,001,331 people cast their vote during the advance voting period which ran from Oct. 10 to Oct. 16. 

The final day of advanced voting saw 222,907 people cast their vote across the province. 

In the riding of Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows residents had a choice between BC NDP candidate and incumbent MLA Lisa Beare or BC Conservative candidate Mike Morden. 

For the Maple Ridge East riding there were three candidates running: incumbent and BC NDP candidate Bob D'Eith; BC Conservative candidate Lawrence Mok; and BC Green Party candidate Kylee Williams. 

Last election in 2020 saw a voter turnout of about 54 per cent, down from the general election in 2017 which saw around 61 per cent of the population of the province vote. 

And out of a total of 1,883,632 valid votes, the NDP received 48 per cent of the vote, and had 57 candidates elected across B.C., including Beare and D'Eith. 

Beare won over BC Liberal candidate Cheryl Ashlie with 63 per cent of the vote in the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows riding over Ashlie's 37 per cent finish. 

D'Eith took what was then the Maple Ridge-Mission riding with 55 per cent of the vote, over BC Liberal candidate Chelsa Meadus who recieved 33 per cent, and BC Green Party candidate Matt Trenholm who got 11 per cent. 

The riding is now called Maple Ridge East. 

The BC Liberal Party followed with 34 per cent of the vote and 28 candidates elected and then the BC Green Party with 15 per cent of the vote and two candidates elected. 

The BC Conservative Party came fourth with only two per cent of the vote, with no candidates elected.
