The Listening Lounge at The Act will bring Raagaverse, with its celebrated fusion of classical Indian music with jazz, on March 28.
The Vancouver-based quartet has received attention and appreciation from Canada's music scene since they formed in 2022. Highlights for Raagaverse so far include performances at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, Jazz YYC Canadian Festival, Jazz at the Bolt, and the West Vancouver Public Library.
The project was spearheaded by Shruti Ramani (vocals) with the award-winning Jodi Proznick (bass), Noah Franche-Nolan (piano), and Nicholas Bracewell (drums). Raagaverse's music melds ancient Hindustani melodies with dynamic jazz harmonies. Lyrics in their music tell stories of love, grief, longing, and a sense of being at home.
Their album Jaya was released in May 2024, and was nominated for a Juno Award for group jazz album of the year. The Juno Awards night will be Sunday, March 30.
The Listening Lounge Series kicks off the weekend in style by offering a relaxed, cabaret-style atmosphere where patrons indulge in a variety of musical genres.
The cost is $37.50 plus fees for a 90-minute show, and tickets are available online at theactmapleridge.org.
