A new exhibition at The ACT Art Gallery will hightlight the unique work of local artist Mark Tigges.

Wood is the theme of the new show called Wood and Wood Fired.

It will feature carved wood, turned wood, handcrafted furniture, jewellery, sculpture and wooden musical instruments done by artists from across the Lower Mainland and the Fraser Valley.

Tigges will be displaying his collection of wood-fired ceramics.

Most artists that work with clay use either an electrical or gas-powered heat source which gives the artist more control over the environment of the kiln.

However Tigges is intrigued by the unpredictability of the of the wood-fired kiln and he enjoys the lengthy and demanding process that comes with firing his ceramics using this ancient technique.

Wood and Wood Fired runs until June 10 at The ACT Art Gallery, 11944 Haney Place in Maple Ridge.
