A Celtic band from Atlantic Canada is coming to Maple Ridge as part ot the Listening Lounge series in April.
The Listening Lounge at The Act Arts Centre urges you to kick off your weekend in style with a relaxed, cabaret-style atmosphere where patrons can indulge in a variety of musical genres. Grab your favourite drink and gather around a table to meet new people or reconnect with old friends while enjoying live music.
The next act in the series is Còig, coming from Cape Breton, on April 11 at 8 p.m. in the studio theatre.
Còig is an traditional Celtic group made up of accomplished multi-instrumentalists Rachel Davis and Darren McMullen, accompanied by Zakk Cormier. With the fiery Celtic high-energy style at its musical core, Còig shifts between century-old tunes of past generations to original and upbeat compositions, featuring the band’s range of over a dozen instruments – vocals, fiddles, piano, guitars, banjo, mandolin, viola, bouzouki, whistles, and more.
“A bit of French, a bit of Irish, a wee dram of Gaelic and a full helping of Cape Breton Scotch; this is a mighty powerful fiddle cocktail from Còig,” writes Alex Monaghan of FolkWorld.
They have won a Canadian Folk Music Award, a JUNO Award nomination and multiple East Coast Music Awards and Music Nova Scotia Awards.
Tickets for the 90-minute show cost $37.50 plus fees, and are available online at theactmapleridge.org
