A Maple Ridge teenager is one of 10 finalists in B.C.’s Best Teen Band contest, sponsored by Youthink magazine, Tom Lee Music and 100.5 The Peak FM.
The Top 10 was selected by a group of music industry judges from nearly 50 entries across the province.
The Top 3 contestants, to be announced on Feb 8, will be chosen via an online vote.
Maillot, 18, bills herself as an indie singer-songwriter.
Her impressive résumé includes performances in Egypt and Romania, winning numerous competitions like the PNE Shaw Star Discovery Talent Search and Victoria Idol, appearing at various festivals like Vancouver Island Music Festival, and catching the attention of impresario David Foster and earning a spot onstage with famed singer Jann Arden during a televised concert in Toronto.
Inspired by the quote “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” Maillot seeks to make a difference through her passion for the arts with “perpetual strive, sheer determination and an open heart.”
A high school graduate at the age of 16, Maillot’s most recent successes include receiving second place in the B.C. Musician Songwriting Magazine.
She has been featured on Oprah Winfrey’s website as part of “Oprah’s Search for the World’s Smartest and Most Talented Kids” section.
One of her original songs, Revolution, was picked up by Universal Music in Europe and appears on the debut album by Swiss recording artist Stefanie Heinzmann.
The song was the third single from Heinzmann’s album Masterplan, which went gold in Germany and Switzerland and was Top 10 in the European Union.
In 2009, she was chosen as one of the Top 20 artists/bands out of 450 applicants in British Columbia to be a part of the inaugural The Peak Performance Project, a $5.29 million plan designed to kick start the international music careers of three emerging B.C. artists every year for the next seven years.
Maillot is currently recording her first EP.
The Top 3 finalists will compete live at Tom Lee Music Hall on April 30 for the title of B.C.’s Best Teen Band.
The winner will receive $3,000 in artist development, a recording session at Factory Studios, a songwriting session with Shaun Verreault (of Wide Mouth Mason), a guitar and gift certificates from Tom Lee, and more.
