The Act Arts Centre is presenting "Musical Masters of the Stage and Screen" during its Sunday Chamber Music Series, coming on Jan. 19.
The presentation of Serenades and Voyages will feature music by Nino Rota, Aaron Copland and Bernard Herrmann, at 3 p.m. at the Mainstage Theatre.
The Sunday Chamber Music series invites new listeners and aficionados alike to experience classical chamber music, performed at the highest levels.
This season’s series highlights composers who moved fluidly between the concert hall, film scoring, and works for the stage. Featuring works by Leonard Bernstein, Erich Korngold, Bernard Herrmann, Nino Rota and Oscar Levant among other greats, the series explores how film and the stage shaped composers in Hollywood and beyond.
Cellist Eric Wilson, this season’s series curator and host, enjoyed a career as a soloist and chamber musician, in addition to being a UBC cello and chamber music professor. A founding member of the acclaimed Emerson String Quartet and solo cellist of the Ensemble of New York in residence at Lincoln Center, he has experienced decades of performances across the world.
This concert will showcase Italian composer Rota's versatility beyond his renowned film scores, the Trio for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano is a virtuosic musical romp. Copland's Sextet reflects his uniquely ‘American’ style. Bernard Herrmann's Souvenirs de Voyage captures the essence of his cinematic genius in a chamber music setting.
The cost of the 90-minute show is $27.50 plus fees, and are available online at theactmapleridge.org.
