Just in time for Halloween, a scary and suspenseful concert is coming to the ACT Arts Centre in Maple Ridge.
Sunday Chamber Music series will be taking on musical masters of the stage and screen with Harmony and Suspense, featuring Bernard Herrmann's iconic Psycho Suite for the string quartet.
The show will feature a trio of composers who fled Europe during the Second World War. The concert will begin with an epic and Romantic period chamber work by Viennese composer Erich Korngold. Classical composer and three-time Oscar winner Miklos Rozsa’s Piano Quintet will also be showcased.
Closing the concert, "with some of the most terrifying (and most imitated) film music of all time", will be Bernard Herrmann’s score for the Hitchcock classic 'Psycho Suite' will perfectly usher in the scary season, described the arts centre online.
The programme will begin with Erich Wolfgang Korngold's 'Suite for Two Violins, Cello and Piano (Left Hand), Op.23', from 1930.
Then Miklos Rozsa's 'Piano Quintet in F Minor, Op.2' from 1928 will be performed.
Finally, Herrmann’s 'Psycho Suite for String Quartet', arranged by Richard Birchall from 1960.

The Sunday Chamber Music series features classical chamber music, performed at the highest levels.
This season’s series highlights composers who moved fluidly between the concert hall, film scoring and works for the stage. It is featuring the works by Leonard Bernstein, Erich Korngold, Bernard Herrmann, Nino Rota and Oscar Levant among other greats, and explores how film and the stage shaped composers, in Hollywood and beyond.
Cellist Eric Wilson, is this season’s series curator and host. His career has encompassed his work as a soloist and chamber musician in addition to being a UBC cello and chamber music professor. He is a founding member of the acclaimed Emerson String Quartet and solo cellist of the Ensemble of New York in residence at Lincoln Center, New York, he has delighted audiences throughout decades of performances across the world.
'Harmony and Suspense' takes place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27 at the Mainstage Theatre in the ACT Arts Centre, 11944 Haney Place and will feature Jasper Wood and Yuel Yawney, on violin; Ryan Davis on viola; Eric Wilson on cello; and Corey Hamm on piano.
Tickets are $27.50 plus fees and will run around 90 minutes plus a 20 minute intermission.
