Pamela Sunshine joins Jack Emberly and Denis Leclerc for an Earth Day storytelling session at Memorial Peace Park on Saturday

Three storytellers will share a variety of tales “to build community” at Memorial Peace Park in downtown Maple Ridge on Earth Day.

Scheduled to perform for adults and kids alike are Pam Southwell, Jack Emberly, and Denis Leclerc.

Southwell, aka ‘Pamela Sunshine’, loves nothing more than telling stories with children and families. She shares gentle tales of wonder, folk tales and sing-along songs as well. Her award-winning CD Growing Up Green is in libraries across Canada and the U.S.

Leclerc’s song’s and tales are steeped in B.C. history, often focusing on events and people who lived during the fur trade. Leclerc can be seen telling tales of the Métis and early voyageurs at Fort Langley.

Emberly is a presenter of stories and storytelling techniques at teacher professional days around B.C. His CD, Sucking the River Dry, extols the virtues of fish, frogs, and the North Alouette River.

Emberly will perform two tales from Africa. Harambee tells how spider, fly, and mouse worked together to bring light into the world. The Congo Boy is a tale of one young fellow’s dream of going hunting with his father in Kenya.

Also taking part in the storytelling will be Peter Tam, a candidate for the Green Party, a community advocate and local musician. Tam recently wrote and produced a ballet titled Spirit of the Wood, which presented in February at the ACT. Look for some of Tam’s friends – Mr. Frog and Mr. Moose –who will be hanging around the storytelling tent.
