Ticket sales surge for Rockin’ River fest

Brad Paisley headlines three-day music festival in Mission, Aug. 15-17

The Rockin’ River MusicFest is all grown up.

In its fifth year, festival president Kenny Hess said it was time to establish  Mission’s three-day country music event into one of the province’s top concert draws.

“We had to show we’re serious,” said Hess, referring to his 2013 musical line-up.

He’s is hoping the addition of Brad Paisley will be the cornerstone to help establish its reputation. So far it’s paying off.

“We’ve sold three times as many advanced campsites and tickets as we have in the past three year combined,” noted Hess.

But he said while the numbers are encouraging, there is still work to be done.

“We still need to sell about $500,000 more worth of tickets just to break even. Brad Paisley costs a lot more money to bring in than Dwight Yoakam .

However, Hess said he’s confident the strong line-up should help ticket sales. He’s also encouraged by the recent stretch of warm weather.

Also playing this year’s line-up includes Friday night headliners Trooper, Saturday night’s main act, Big and Rich, along with artists like Chris Young, Kristen Kelly, and Gabby’s Girls.
