One person was taken to hospital with serious injuries on Tuesday (July 16) after a four-vehicle crash involving a logging truck on Lougheed Highway (Highway 7) in Maple Ridge.
The crash occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m. at the 287th Street intersection near the City of Mission boundary.
According to a Ridge Meadows RCMP news release, the logging truck collided with a Chevrolet Tahoe while travelling westbound. Police say the initial collision caused both vehicles to enter the eastbound lane, striking a GMC van and a Toyota Corolla.
Both B.C. Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) and Ridge Meadows RCMP were dispatched to the scene, with an air ambulance also being required, said BCEHS paramedic public information officer Brian Twaites.
"Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to two patients," said Twaites. "One patient was transported by air ambulance to hospital in serious condition. The second patient was transported by ground ambulance to hospital in stable condition."
Maple Ridge Fire Department (MRFD) assisted BCEHS with extracting the trapped driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe vehicle. RCMP say the other drivers did not sustain significant injuries.
The Integrated Reconstruction Analysis Reconstruction Team (ICARS) were called to assist with the investigation and Mission RCMP officers also helped secure the scene.
The intersection of Lougheed Highway and 287 Street will remain closed in both directions for several hours, police say.
"This is currently an active and ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time," Ridge Meadows RCMP said.
