Sexual assault among other charges have been laid against a man in Surrey accused of victimizing two other men.
Staff Sgt. Lindsay Houghton, of the Surrey Police Service, said police first received a complaint on Oct. 17, 2024 from a man claiming he'd been assaulted by another man on two occasions at an apartment in Whalley, in the neighbourhood of 141 Street and 104 Avenue. A investigation launched by the Vulnerable Persons Unit and RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit resulted in the suspect's arrest on Nov. 28.
"The suspect was released without charges pending further investigation and released on an undertaking with conditions to have no direct or indirect contact with the victim," Houghton said.
Then on Jan. 31, 2025, police received a report from a second man claiming he'd been sexually assaulted by a man at an apartment in that same area.
Police executed a search warrant at an apartment and arrested William Alexander "Alex" Kroesen, 41, who remains in custody pending a hearing in Surrey provincial court on Feb. 25.
On Feb. 1, the BC Prosecution Service approved the following charges against Kroesen: Assault, uttering threats, sexual assault, choking to overcome resistance, and unlawful confinement.
Houghton said Kroesen was on Feb. 10 charged with two additional counts of assault by choking "in connection with the incidents" alleged to have occurred in October.
"Police are releasing a photo of William Kroesen, who also goes by the name “Alex”, because police believe people in Surrey community have additional information that will assist in advancing these investigations," Houghton said.
