UPDATE: Cyclist killed by hit-and-run driver on 200th Street in Langley

A cyclist was killed in a hit-and-run collision early Friday morning, May 19, on 200th Street in Langley.

RCMP were on scene at 2 a.m. to investigate an incident involving a vehicle and cyclist.

According to S/Sgt. Kris Clark, the driver of a grey Mercedes allegedly hit the cycliste, then drove off before police arrived.

“Responding officers were able to quickly locate the involved vehicle and driver,” Clark said in a statement.

The cyclist’s injuries were severe, and they were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The cause of the crash remains unknown, and no charges have been laid, but the driver has been arrested.

Anyone who has any information and has yet to speak with police, or anyone who might have dashcam video of the collision, is asked to contact the Langley RCMP at 604-514-2870.

According to a tweet by Corp. Dave Noon, all lanes on 200th Street between 72nd and 66th Avenue were closed during the investigation.

His tweet sent at 5 a.m. said the Lower Mainland District Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) was deployed to 200th Street and 68th Avenue area.

Detours are in place to travel around the closure.

Rayworth said roads would be open within the hour.
