A show celebrating the rich history of burlesque is coming to the ACT Arts Centre in Maple Ridge.
'Bells and Whistles Burlesque' will feature an evening of performances by internationally renowned burlesque artists, music and drag entertainment.
Host for the evening will be Genesis, the first drag king to win the illustrious competition Vancouver's Next Drag Superstar, who will be serving up gender fluid looks, flawless makeup, live vocals, and groovy choreography.
The show itself will be curated in the tradition of burlesque aesthetic, but with a modern artistic messaging. It is meant to celebrate the provocative allure, the slow reveal, the opulent costumes and fancy props such as fans, silks, boas and gloves.
All types of bodies, genders, ages, and abilities will be on the stage.
Scarlet Delirium, the headliner from this year’s Vancouver International Burlesque Festival, who most recently competed in the Burlesque Hall of Fame this month in Las Vegas, will be taking to the stage along with Dulce D'Jour.
Delirium has graced the stages across North America since 2010 and is known for her signature saunter and slow burn style, and she is a founding member of Virago Nation, Turtle Island's first all Indigenous Burlesque Collective.
D'Jour, who originally hails from Cuba, made her burlesque debut in 2018 and has travelled across the Pacific Northwest and beyond with her act.
She placed third in the Monarch competition at the Pacific Northwest Burlesque Festival and has had featured performer slots at What the Funk Festival in 2022 and the RVA Burlesque Festival in 2023.
As a former bellydancer, Dulce specializes in fluid movements and fabric manipulation and has created custom fabric props such as veils, fans, flags, and streamers.
She is a co-founder of Papaya Magic Cabaret, an all-Latin burlesque troupe based in her hometown of Olympia, WA.
The show also features performances by Grace Galore, Halena Lou, Lace Cadet, Maverick, Hot Girl Conspiracy, Ruby Revel, Hotsy Flashy, Amethyst Howl, and more.
'Bells and Whistles Burlesque, a New Classic Burlesque Show' is coming to the ACT Arts Centre, 11944 Haney Place, at 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 18.
The show is for those 19 years and older as the show involves nudity and adult themes.
