The next door neighbour to the Haney Block Party has been the Downtown Maple Ridge Business Improvement Association (DMRBIA) Night Market, which was held for the second straight year on Saturday, July 20 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
A variety of vendors, entertainment and food trucks were placed on the West side of 228th Street and partway down 119th Avenue, on both sides of the street. Visitors enjoyed the event and commented with excitement to come back again next year, said Flori Chaykowski, executive director of the BIA.
Added this year, in honour of Maple Ridge’s 150th, the fence along 228th was adorned with 150 flowers free for visitors of the event to take.
Although visitors had positive comments and liked the event, organizers felt attendance was down and hope to promote earlier and expand on it for 2025.
"Our team is always excited to bring events to our downtown core, meant to encourage residents and visitors to enjoy what our downtown Maple Ridge has to offer, and provide a strong and clear message for supporting local," said Chaykowski.
