This coyote was aggressive toward a dog walker in Pitt Meadows.

A coyote that was behaving aggressively in Harris Road Park in Pitt Meadows is to be avoided, according to the Conservation Officer's Service.

"It stalked me and my two dogs (Rottweiler and boxer), ran up and nipped my boxer's back leg," said a social media post on Tuesday.

"My dog jumped away on time."

The poster showed a video of the coyote, which is seen with its tail curled underneath its body, baring its teeth, and then running toward the person with the camera.

He contacted police and Conservation Officers confirmed they received the report.

"Coyotes can be aggressive towards people and pets, particularly if they are protecting their young or a nearby den," said a spokesperson.

"People are encouraged to take precautions in case of wildlife encounters, including being aware of your surroundings and ensuring pets are leashed."

CO’s will respond as necessary to ensure public safety, they added.

Conservation is in communication with the City of Pitt Meadows regarding signage at the park.
