The City of Maple Ridge issued an alert about heavy rain and high stream flows this weekend.

A storm system will bring a surge of warmer air and moderate to heavy precipitation to the region. The storm will arrive on Saturday night and continue through Monday. Heaviest rainfall rates are expected Sunday afternoon. Rainfall totals may reach up to 100 mm by Monday.

Runoff from rainfall and snow melt is expected to lead to high stream flow through the weekend to mid next week. Significant flooding is not anticipated, however localized flooding, rising river levels, washouts and hazardous driving conditions are possible, warned the city.

City crews are preparing city infrastructure, monitoring rivers and are ready to respond as needed.

The city advises residents to:

• Help keep catch basins and drains clear to prevent localized flooding
• Drive carefully and give yourself more time to travel
• Be cautious near rivers, keep children close and keep pets on leash
• Stay clear of fast-flowing rivers, creeks and potentially unstable river banks
• Take extra care in wilderness areas, avoid avalanche terrain, and monitor conditions at avalanche.ca
• Report concerns at MapleRidge.ca/Report or call, 604-463-9581
• Review your home emergency plan and supplies

The city offers this information through Alert Maple Ridge.
