The 66-year-old man from Maple Ridge has been issued a 90-day driving prohibition and had his Corvette impounded for 30 days after Mission RCMP attended an incident last week.

First responders were called to the intersection of Lougheed Highway and the Hayward Connector around 1 p.m. on May 29, after reports were received of a blue 1979 Corvette that had rolled over into the ditch.

When police arrived, no driver was on scene. However he was located shortly afterwards at a nearby gas station.

The driver stated that he mistakenly gave a little too much throttle while making the left turn, but subsequently failed two roadside breath tests and was issued a 90-day driving prohibition.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Mission RCMP, 604-826-7161, file 25-6153.

In other news, the Mission RCMP’s Traffic Services Unit conducted proactive enforcement in various areas over the past week.

On May 26, an officer pulled over a white Honda Civic on Lougheed Highway near Silverdale, after it was observed travelling at 142 km/hr in the 80 km/hr zone. In addition to the excessive speed, the 22-year-old male driver could only produce an out-of-country driver’s license, which was no longer valid . The driver – and all other drivers stopped for excessive speeding – received a seven-day impound and a ticket for excessive speed.

The following day, in the same area, a vehicle was stopped for travelling 136 km/hr in the 80 km/hr zone. Shortly afterwards at 9:30 a.m., the same officer pulled over another car for speeding in the Silverdale area, and found the driver to be exhibiting signs of being impaired. The 44-year-old male from Mission failed two roadside screening tests, and was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and 30-day impound.

Around 5 pm on May 28, an officer near Deroche stopped a motorcycle that had been travelling at 152 km/hr in the 80 km/hr zone.

Finally, on the afternoon of May 29, an officer pulled over a red Dodge Caliber, after it was seen swerving on Cedar Street, and had an obvious vehicle defect. The officer noted symptoms consistent with the driver being impaired by drugs, and one of Mission RCMP’s Traffic Services Officers, who is a certified drug recognition expert, attended to conduct roadside testing.

That officer confirmed the impairment as the driver refused to complete a roadside screening test and was issued a 90-day driving prohibition.
