The caretaker of the Malcolm Knapp Research Forest in Maple Ridge is leaving, and will host a final Sacred Drum Circle and Potluck there this Saturday, April 26.
Lozan Yamolky will play her daf, which is a Kurdish hand drum, and there will be other people from the Kurdish community in the Lower Mainland attending. She is inviting First Nations dancers and drummers, and anyone who enjoys the art of drumming.
"I'm looking forward to different cultures coming together for this event," she said, and explained drumming is one of her passions.
Yamolky is a writer and artist, and people will have seen her pinwheels on the walnut tree at Malcom Knapp, or other art installations at the research forest.
Her last day on the job at the UBC research forest will be on May 1, as she hopes to spend more time working on her memoir.
The research forest entrance is at 14500 Silver Valley Rd., and the event is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m.
She advices there will be no dogs allowed, no smoking or substances, and the maintenance and cleanliness of the forest is important.
