Three people were sent to hospital with “serious but non-life-threatening” injuries after a head-on crash near the border of Mission and Maple Ridge on Saturday (Jan. 11).
The collision occurred at roughly 7:30 p.m. on Dewdney Trunk Road near 288 Street between a green 1998 Chevrolet Silverado pickup and a black 2023 Volkswagen Atlas SUV.
“A witness reported that the pickup truck crossed the centerline while rounding a bend in the road, and struck the Volkswagen head-on,” Mission RCMP said in a statement.
Firefighters extricated three occupants from the pickup truck and they were taken to hospital. Police say the Volkswagen five occupants walked away from the crash with minor injuries.
The collision was initially reported by the iPhone of one of the occupants, which automatically detected the crash and notified emergency services.
A statement from B.C. Emergency Health Services said four ambulance crews and a supervisor responded.
