An investigation by conservation officers has brought charges against a Lower Mainland man in connection with the trafficking of wildlife meat and parts in the Maple Ridge areas.

The BC Conservation Officer Service announced on Friday, Feb. 2 that the individual faces five charges under the Wildlife Act.

Conservation officers launched an investigation after receiving a tip from the public, said COS Insp. Kyle Ackles.

The offences were alleged to have occurred between October 2022 and October 2023 in the Maple Ridge area.

“The illegal trade of wildlife parts is prevalent across BC. This trade poses significant risks to healthy wildlife populations across our province,” said Ackles, who oversees the general investigations section.

“The impacts of the illegal trade of wildlife are significant,” he added.

A court appearance is scheduled at Port Coquitlam provincial court on Thursday, Feb. 15.
