A Maple Ridge bakery is once again using its tasty cookies to help sick children throughout the province as part of the annual Milk and Cookies for Canuck Place campaign.

Thousands of dollars are raised each year by Lower Mainland businesses throughout February and March, with Hansel and Gretel Bakery participating yet again this year.

According to one of the owners, Claudia Storer, the Maple Ridge bakery was able to raise $1,800 for last year’s campaign and hopes to surpass this amount this go around.

“This year we have our sister location, Gingerbread Haus, selling the cookies as well, so we are really hoping that we can contribute even more,” said Storer.

She explained that being one of the more than a dozen Lower Mainland businesses participating in the Milk and Cookies for Canuck Place campaign is incredibly important to Storer and her husband.

“We love to participate in this donation drive because we know how important Canuck Place is to a lot of B.C. families,” said Storer.

“It is a sad reality for a lot of families to have to face having a critically ill child, much less having to relocate to Vancouver for treatment. Canuck Place is a home away from home and the people that work there really care, not just the kids in their keep but also their siblings, parents, and family that come to stay with them. Our family has spent time at BC Children’s Hospital with our eldest child, so we know how important the sanctuary and support of a team can be.”

Canuck Place provides hospice and community-based services to children between the ages of newborn and 19 years old who suffer from progressive life-threatening illnesses.
