Maple Ridge Christian School (MRCS), is preparing to open the doors of its new education wing in 2025.
First breaking ground on the new building project in 2023, the nearly completed expansion will allow the school to create more spaces for students. The expansion will offer a new high school gym, updated music and drama rooms, and additional classrooms and social spaces.

MRCS offers education that integrates learning and faith for grades K-12 at its location at 12140 204 B Street.

Lead principal Quentin Flokstra said he is excited to see how the updated facilities will enhance the educational programs at MRCS.

“Our vision of providing innovative Christian education in a mission-minded community where every student thrives can be expanded to include more families, as we seek to empower our students to use their God-given talents to bless their community," he said.

"We are also looking forward to seeing how our facility can be used to benefit different programs in the communities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.”

MRCS now turns its attention to welcoming current and prospective new students for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. Flokstra and his staff invite the public to see what the school is about at an open house on Jan. 13, 2025. Visitors will have the opportunity to hear more about the education program, ask questions, and tour the facilities. Registrations for new families will be open from Jan. 15 to 31, 2025.

Over the past year, the staff has been engaging in a professional development program called Teaching for Transformation, where teachers have been diving into what they hope for each student both academically and spiritually.

The school has deep community roots, having opened in 1956 with 28 students, under the name Haney-Pitt Meadows Christian School. It was operated out of just two classrooms, for student in Grades 1-7, in the basement of the former Maple Ridge Christian Reformed Church at Dewdney Trunk Road and 216 Street.

In 1959, the school obtained a new building. It had been part of Vancouver's Shaunessy Hospital, and was floated via barge up the Fraser River to Harris Road in Pitt Meadows, then trucked too the current site. In 1961 the present school officially opened as a Grade 1-7 school, and kindergarten was added in 1983.
