A house was badly damaged and the occupants displaced after a fire on Glenhurst Street on Wednesday night, May 7.

According to Maple Ridge Fire Chief Dave Samson, the lower floor of the house was burning when fire crews arrived at the scene, just south of Dewdney Trunk Road, at approximately 7:30 p.m.

He said crews did a good job of containing the fire, and there were no injuries to occupants or firefighters. However, there was significant damage to the residence, with smoke and water damage throughout, and it is not inhabitable.

Samson noted the occupant of the house did have fire insurance, and there was an online effort to get the resident gift cards for clothing, food and other items.
