Ridge Meadows RCMP are investigating a situation in Maple Ridge in which witnesses saw a woman screaming in a vehicle, and it has been described on social media as "a possible abduction."
On Tuesday, May 6, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious occurrence in the area of 232 Street and 132 Avenue in Maple Ridge, confirmed police. They are not calling it an abduction at this stage of their investigation.
There are reports on social media that a woman walking her dog along Fern Crescent witnessed a vehicle with the passenger door open, and a woman inside screaming, but police have not confirmed that is the focus of their investigation. Neither did RCMP confirm they are looking for a black VW Jetta in connection to the reports, but people in the area report they were asking about a vehicle matching that description.
Police were in the neighbourhood talking to the public, and looking for security camera footage.
This is an ongoing investigation and officers are still gathering details to determine the exact nature of the incident, said police.
Ridge Meadows RCMP frontline and investigational support team officers will be back in the area today looking for any potential witnesses and video surveillance.
Further information may be released as the investigation continues, said police.
