Maple Ridge Museum cleaned more than 300 headstones at Maple Ridge Cemetery and Whonnock Cemetery in 2024.

The Maple Ridge Museum wants to encourage people to take pride in their local cemeteries by participating in the annual headstone preservation project, which is quickly coming to an end.

The last session is on Saturday, Sept. 7, and will take place at the Whonnock Cemetery.

So far this summer, there have already been several headstone preservation projects, with hundreds of gravestones receiving a makeover.

According to the museum, a total of nearly 300 stones were cleaned by 39 volunteers throughout July and August.

With many of the gravestones at the local cemeteries being more than a century old, the museum is putting out the call for volunteers one last time to try and give even more headstones the proper send-off into the new year.

The final cemetery cleanup event will be on Sept. 7 from 9 a.m. to noon, with registration available at mapleridgemuseum.org.
