Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge MP Marc Dalton is inviting the public to a forum on the opioid crisis in his riding, coming up on Sept. 11.
Dalton said the event will be attended by the Hope For Freedom Society, which offers treatment and recovery, as well as other organizations in the cities who provide resources for those struggling with addiction. He said there are numerous organizations in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows that focus on recovery.
"It's an opportunity to invite the public, and show them there are solutions," said Dalton. "It will be an opportunity to connect."
The event will also feature individuals sharing personal stories and experiences with addiction.
"The overall life expectancy is dropping because of addiction. It is a scourge," said the Conservative Party MP. "And what we're doing is just not working."
This event will be family focused and a good conversation starter for parents, he said.
The event will be held at Maple Ridge Community Church (20450 Dewdney Trunk Rd.), and doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Presentations will start at 7 p.m., and finished by 8:30 p.m.
