Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows players prominent at BC Rugby Provincials

Playing for medals with regional teams at the BC Provincial Rugby Championships in Vancouver

Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows players were prominent as the BC Provincial Rugby Championships were played July 5-7 at UBC's Gerald McGavin Rugby Centre in Vancouver.

There were local players at all levels of the BC Rugby weekend festival, as the best youth players in the sport played for their regional teams. There were 43 teams and 600 athletes representing seven regions.

The Vancouver Island Junior Tide won the U14 Boys, U14 Girls and U18 Boys Divisions, while Fraser Valley West were declared U18 Girls Champions and Fraser Valley East won the U16 Boys Championship. The North Vancouver Island Tsunami won the U16 Girls gold medal.

Teams from the Vancouver Rugby Union (VRU), Vancouver Island Junior Tide (VIRU Tide), North Vancouver Island Rugby Union (NVIRU Tsunami), Fraser Valley Rugby Union (FVRU), Thompson-Okanagan Rugby Alliance (TORA), Kootenays Rugby Union (KRU) and Aurora Wolves Rugby Union (The North) competed 117 games in front of 2,500 spectators throughout July 5-7.

For emerging Rugby players, the 2024 PRCs presented a perfect opportunity to impress the watching BC Rugby team coaches and make a late bid for selection to the BC Bears provincial U16 and U18 representative teams in action this summer.
