It's now been a quarter of a century since the Ridge Meadows Seniors Society first opened its doors, with the group hosting a special birthday event to mark the occasion.
Executive director Maria Perretta explained that the society is extremely proud to have done its essential work in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows for the past 25 years.
"So much has changed over the years, but our goal to improve the lives of seniors by remaining relevant and responsive to the changing needs of seniors, has always remained the same," said Perretta.
Over the years, the Ridge Meadows Seniors Society has helped hundreds of thousands of visitors at their Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows centres, said Perretta.
"It has been a place that seniors can meet new friends, learn new things, find support, and share a good meal," she said.
"With over 100 weekly activities, services, and programs to choose from, we are the leading community organization that provides safe, welcoming, and inclusive centres that celebrate adults 55-plus."
The society hopes to see many of its members at the upcoming birthday bash, for which it has pulled out all the stops.
"We are celebrating our 25th birthday with an old school birthday party with all the fun games, prizes, cake, and hot dogs that some of us fondly remember as youngsters ourselves," said Perretta.
Tickets for the birthday celebrations are free and can be obtained by signing up at member services at either the Maple Ridge Seniors Activity Centre (12150 224 St.) or Pitt Meadows Seniors Activity Centre (19065 119B Ave.).
The parties will be held at the Maple Ridge facility on Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and at the Pitt Meadows centre on Thursday, Oct. 10, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
