Maple Ridge's annual costume party and fireworks show is coming up.
The city's Halloween festival billed Celebrate the Night, takes place downtown on Saturday, Oct. 19. The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Peace Park (11930 224th Street), and admission is free.
The family gathering will be illuminated by light installations and lanterns. It has a Creepy Carnival theme, and kids can enjoy games, storytelling, and crafts. There will be live entertainers on the main stage, in the bandstand, and roving the festival. A colourful carousel will offer rides, and of course food trucks will serve up a variety of takeaway meals and treats.
The night will be capped off by the annual fireworks display starting at 8 p.m.
The city invites those attending the park to get dressed up, and share photos of their costumes for a chance to win prizes.
Coming on the heels of a successful Our Neck of the Woods Festival last month, Mayor Dan Ruimy is anticipating the crowds for Celebrate the Night could swell this year.
"These are the kind of events that make people feel good about where they live," he said.
"It's another opportunity to get people out to enjoy their downtown."
The festival is happening on the same night as the provincial election, and Ruimy urged people to make sure they exercise their right to vote before coming to the festival.
"The closest voting station is at Eric Langton [Elementary], so people can go there and vote early," the mayor suggested.
