UPDATED: One airlifted after serious crash

Jaws of life used to extricate driver

One person was airlifted to hospital following a Sunday afternoon crash in Albion.

Around 1:45 p.m., Maple Ridge firefighters attended a crash at 241A Street and 102nd Avenue.

It appears a minivan T-boned a sedan turning out onto 102nd Avenue.

Firefighters used jaws of life to remove the door of the sedan to access the injured driver, witnesses reported.

Those injured were transported to hospital by a combination of ground and air ambulance in serious condition, said BC Emergency Health Services public information officer Rachelle Brown.

The air ambulance was forced to land some distance away, in a field at Cottonwood Drive and Dewdney Trunk Road, due to low clouds near the accident scene.

Four other people were transported to hospital in stable condition, Brown said.

The two-vehicle incident is under investigation, police were not offering any other details.
