The City of Pitt Meadows received $5.4 million from the provincial government's Growing Communities Fund to help with the Pitt Meadows Athletic Park improvements.

The Pitt Meadows Athletic Park is one step closer to getting its new additions now that the City of Pitt Meadows has received $5.4 million from the provincial government.

This money comes from the Growing Communities Fund and is part of the $18.7 million needed to help build the planned additions to the athletic park.

Originally approved back in December of 2023, this proposal includes two distinct phases for improving the current facilities at the Pitt Meadows Athletic Park.

The first of these projects involves the construction of a double artificial turf field, and an additional parking lot with a 127-vehicle capacity.

The other part of the plan will have crews build a covered multi-sport box, expand the current parking lot to accommodate another 48 vehicle stalls, and relocate the Pitt Meadows Secondary School field house to the athletic park.

Mayor Nicole MacDonald said that she was excited to see the project progress, with it currently being in the technical work and design phase.

"We know that recreation spaces are the heart of our community, and we have heard from our residents that they are a priority," said MacDonald. "This progress would not be possible without the generous support from the province to invest in our community’s sports and recreation amenities."

An official project update is expected to be provided soon at one of the upcoming council meetings, with an estimated timeline yet to be announced.
