Curbside recycling collection days will change for approximately 19,000 Maple Ridge households starting Monday, June 30.
Recycle BC will introduce a new four-day collection schedule designed to improve service reliability, minimize disruptions caused by statutory holidays, and enhance operational efficiency. Residents should watch for a postcard in the mail with reminders about the change, as well as the new 2025/26 printed calendar and recycling guide.
Recycle BC assumed responsibility from Ridge Meadows Recycling Society (RMRS) for Maple Ridge’s curbside and multi-family recycling services on Jan. 1.
The new Monday-to-Thursday collection schedule reduces service delays due to statutory holidays. When a holiday occurs, collection days may shift forward by one day, but all households will still receive service within the same week. New trucks with increased capacity used by Recycle BC’s curbside contractor, Remple Disposal, will reduce trips and fuel and allow for more consistent maintenance to minimize disruptions.
Recycle BC is reminding residents to adjust how they sort materials into existing collection boxes, bags, or carts. Updated recycling guidelines as of Jan. 1, 2025, are as follows:
• Red/pink box or flexible plastics cart: all flexible plastics, such as plastic bags and overwrap, crinkly wrappers and packaging, zipper-lock pouches, plastic net bags, and similar materials are to be sorted in red/pink box or flexible plastics cart.
• Blue box or container cart: plastic containers, metal containers, cartons, and paper cups.
• Yellow bag or paper cart: paper and cardboard.
• Grey box or glass cart: glass bottles and jars.
A full list of materials accepted can be found at recyclebc.ca
Paper, mixed containers and glass are collected weekly and flexible plastics every two weeks on the same day as your other recyclable materials, but in a separate truck. Residents are reminded to set out materials at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection days. For more information visit RecycleBC.ca/MapleRidge.
