The Ridge Meadows Flames' aspirations of taking first place in the Pacific Junior Hockey League suffered a blow on Sunday, Dec. 22, when they lost to the top team.

The Chilliwack Jets had been finally dropping altitude, suffering four of their five losses this season during December, but they beat the Flames 4-2 in a head-to-head match in Sardis on Sunday night.

The Flames have 56 points after 33 games and sit in second place, while the Jets have 60 points in 35 games. It was their last meeting of the regular season.

Zack Lagrange gave the Flames a lead in the first period, as he scored his 33rd goal of the season. Then the Flames rattled off four straight goals in the first seven minutes of the second period, and took a 4-1 lead after two periods.

The Jets then rode a good goaltending performance from a Pitt Meadows player in Nicholas Muc, who stopped 38 of 40 shots. He's gone 8-1 win the Jets, and boasts a .927 save percentage on the season.

On Friday night the Flames blasted the Port Moody Panthers 10-1, outshooting them 55-23. Nolan Bowsher was the player of the game, with a hat trick and four points, including a penalty shot goal.

Theo Kochan had a goal and three assists, James Eagle had a goal and two helpers, and Samuel Allen had two tallies and an assist.

The Flames will be at Minoru Arena in Richmond for a pair of games on Dec. 28 and 30, then will be back for a home contest in the new year. On Jan. 3 they will host the Aldergrove Kodiaks at Cam Neely Arena.
