The Ridge Meadows Flames put up two more wins in weekend action in the Pacific Junior Hockey League.
The Flames shut out the Port Coquitlam Trailblazers 6-0 on Friday, Nov. 22, then travelled to Burnaby Winter Club on Nov. 24 to beat the Grandview Steelers 3-2.
Goaltender Matthew Candusso made 24 saves to earn the shutout on Friday, and the Flames got some offence from defenceman Tyler Blatz, who had a goal and two assists. Forward Sam Allen had three helpers, while Nolan Bowsher and James Eagle each had a goal and an assist.
The Flames received another great goaltending performance on Sunday, as rookie Josh Vallee got a tough win with 37 saves on 39 shots against Grandview. Vallee is tops in the league with a 1.90 goals against average, while Candusso is second at 2.15.
Forward Jonah Power Smith had a goal and an assist for the Flames, while Bowsher and defenceman Jakob Loewen also scored.
The Flames will host the Coastal Tsunami on Friday night, Nov. 29. So far this season, the Gibsons squad has 11 wins, 12 losses, an overtime loss and a shootout loss. The Flames have 20 wins, two losses, and one overtime loss. They will meet at Cam Neely Arena at 7 p.m.
• The game will be a fundraiser for the Ice Symmetrix Synchro teams from the Maple Ridge Skating Club, as they are both selling admission tickets for the game, selling 50/50 tickets, and offering a skating performance during the first intermission.
• The PJHL has announced the PoCo Trailblazers will host the 2025 PJHL All-Star Game at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre on Monday, Jan. 13, at 6 p.m., with the top players from the league showcasing their skills.
