Both longtime residents and those new to this country will be able to sit down and share a Thanksgiving meal together as part of the event hosted by the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Katzie Local Immigration Partnership.

Although this event has been going on for the past seven years, this marks the first time that the Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Katzie Seniors Network has partnered with the Immigration Partnership and its partner Building Interfaith Bridges.

Seniors network executive director Christina Shearme explained that becoming a partner for this event provides local seniors with some much-needed benefits during the lead-up to this holiday season.

"The seniors network is focusing on reducing isolation within the senior population by providing opportunities to connect both intergenerationally and multiculturally," said Shearme.

Throughout the evening, attendees can enjoy a selection of Thanksgiving-themed food with plenty of opportunity for seniors to mingle with newcomers and other fellow seniors.

The event is free to attend, but space is limited, with registration available by emailing seniorsnetworkmpk@gmail.com.

The Newcomers Thanksgiving Dinner takes place at the Albion Community Centre on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 5 to 8 p.m.
