A cookbook celebrating the creativity and talents of the culinary arts students at Thomas Haney Secondary has been launched to raise money for the school program.
Instructors Chef Brian Smith and Chef Karen Carruthers have put together a beautifully curated cookbook showcasing favourite recipes from the Thunder teaching kitchen at the school.
The book was eight years in the making and was officially launched at the recent Thomas Haney Art Gallery event, where guests enjoyed a spread of charcuterie and lemonade while browsing and purchasing copies.
“The process of creating the book was as joyful as the outcome,” said Chefs Smith and Carruthers, who worked closely with students throughout the creation of the project.
It features a breakdown of the program's four key kitchen stations and offers readers a behind-the-scenes look at the culinary program structure teaches students from Grade 9-12 real-world kitchen skills.
And, they said, it offers families a chance to bring home the flavours of the Thunder kitchen, empowering students to recreate the recipes they’ve mastered at school.
School photographer Randy Dicken provided the images in the book.
"The Thunder Kitchen Cookbook" is now available for purchase through the school’s teaching kitchen, with all proceeds going directly back into the program to help cover the ongoing costs of maintaining a fully functioning, professional-grade kitchen.
