The Maple Ridge Burrards got their second win of the WLA season as they beat the New Westminster Salmonbellies 13-12 on Sunday, June 9, at Cam Neely Arena.
It was a great comeback win, as the Bellies took a 4-0 lead in the first four minutes of action, and the Burrards were chasing the game most of the way. They didn't take a lead until Brett Kujala made it 9-8 in the final minute of the second period.
A Dylan Mcintosh power play goal with just over three minutes left in the game stood up as the game winner. He had a hat trick, and as named the first star of the game.
Ryan Jones led the offence with a goal and five assists, while three Burrards had four points: Rhys Porteous (two goals, two assists), Mcintosh (three goals, one assist) and rookie first-overall pick Marcus Klarich (four assists). Drew Andre also had a pair of goals.
In goal, Brandon Humphrey stopped 41 shots to get the win.
It was the first loss of the season for the Salmonbellies, whose record dropped to 3-1. The Burrards improved to 2-3.
Ridge is next in action on Friday night at Victoria's Q Centre against the Shamrocks. Then on Sunday, June 16, they will face the Langley Thunder again at Cam Neely Arena. The teams have split their earlier two meetings this season. Game time is 7 p.m.
