Daniel Amesbury will once again be donning a new jersey this upcoming hockey season after signing with the Kansas City Mavericks.
The hard-hitting Maple Ridge forward has laced up his skates for a wide variety of teams over the past few years, with his most recent stint being with the Fort Wayne Komets in the ECHL.
Amesbury joined the team mid-season and was only able to play 13 games with them, during which he lived up to his reputation as a tough player, earning 52 penalty minutes by season's end.
"My time here was short but it is something that will hold dear to my heart for the rest of my life," wrote Amesbury on social media. "I want to take the time to thank the Komets' organization for taking a chance on me."
The 33-year-old will now be joining a team that had a dominant season last year, with the Mavericks earning the Brabham Cup and getting to the finals, where they lost the Kelly Cup to the Florida Everglades.
Amesbury hopes that he can help the Mavericks avenge this loss next season and get the team their first championship.
"The Mavericks are a first-class organization and I couldn't be more excited to get to Kansas City," said Amesbury.
Mavericks head coach Tad O'Had said he was equally excited to have Amesbury as part of his roster for the 2024-25 season.
"The Kansas City faithful will love his hard-hitting style, toughness, intensity, and grit," said O'Had. "Daniel is an excellent teammate, protector, and fan favourite who will be a great addition to our roster. He embodies the passion, work ethic, and love for the game that we value in Kansas City."
As a Maverick, Amesbury will also be eligible to join the AHL's Coachella Valley Firebirds and the NHL's Seattle Kraken, which are both affiliates of the Kansas City team.
The 2024-25 ECHL season begins on Oct. 18, when the Mavericks will face the Wichita Thunder.
