A Maple Ridge hockey prospect has been traded between Western Hockey League teams.

The Prince Albert Raiders and Calgary Hitmen made a deal on Monday, Oct. 28, that saw the Raiders acquire 2006-born defenceman Brandon Osborne in exchange for a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft.

Osborne, a product of Maple Ridge, has played in three games so far this season for the Hitmen, out of 12 contests they have played. In 28 games with them last season, the blueliner had two assists.

Osborne, 18, played for West Vancouver Academy, and with the Ridge Meadows Flames. In 2022-2023 he played 48 games with his hometown Junior team, putting up 19 points in 48 games, followed by another 10 points in 16 playoff games. Last season, he had eight points in 16 games with the Flames, and was selected to play for Team PJHL in the BCHC Top Prospects Game in 2023, before jumping to the WHL Hitmen.

The Raiders will be without a pair of 16-year-old defencemen as they head off to the U17 World Hockey Challenge in Sarnia, Ontario, where they will play for Team Canada until Nov. 9, opening some spots in the lineup.
