Lacrosse Canada has announced the roster for the 2024 World Sixes field lacrosse tournament in Coquitlam this weekend, Oct. 11 to 13, and there is a strong contingent from the Ridge Meadows Burrards association.
Burrard Taliyah Martinez and Burrards alumni Lucas Price, Blake Young, Ty Fisher, and Keegan Laity are competing with Lacrosse Canada. After capturing a silver medal last year in Oshawa, the women's team looks to bring home gold on the West Coast.
The Super Sixes event, which began with Women’s Super Sixes in 2022, has now expanded to include both men’s and women’s teams. The men’s team has not competed in a sixes event since the 2022 World Games, where Canada defeated USA to capture gold in Birmingham, Alabama.
The participating athletes are among the best in the world, with many expected to represent their countries in the highly anticipated 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
"With the addition of Sixes to the Olympics, we’re thrilled to have international competition here in B.C.," said Jill Krop, executive director of BCLA. "We are hoping lacrosse enthusiasts in BC will fill the stands at Percy Perry Stadium in Coquitlam to cheer for all teams, but especially for Team Canada!"
The women are up against Haudenosaunee and Great Britain, while the men faced First Nations and Mexico. The women's gold medal game is scheduled for noon on Oct. 13, and the men at 1 p.m.
