The Maple Ridge Ramblers hosted a senior basketball tournament on Jan. 9-11, and both the boys and girls teams went undefeated.
There were four teams on each side in a round-robin format.
The boys beat the Salish Wolves on Thursday night by a score of 89-57, as Moe Mouawia led the scoring with 21 points, and Vincent Longmuir scored 13. Sam Lewis and Dwayne Tabang netted 12 points apiece.
On Friday the Ramblers boys bested Langley Secondary 72-41, as Mouawia scored 18 and Longmuir 15.
"It was another good all-around effort, with multiple players contributing," said Ramblers coach Brody Herman.
The boys finished the tournament against Pinetree of Coquitlam, with an 80-49 win, as Longmuir netted 18, Mouawia 13 and Nathan Haynes had 8.
The girls won their first game by forfeit, then on Friday beat Langley secondary by a score of 56-28. Kayleigh Mark had 28 points, and Kylie Saranchuk 19.
They finished up on Saturday with an 80-15 win over North Delta, as Saranchuk scored 22 and Mark had 20.
"We are using the tournament as a fundraiser, and to honour members of the basketball program past and present who have been affected by cancer," noted Herman. "We are hoping to donate funds raised to an organization that assists families and children impacted by the disease."
Next up in high school hoops is the Pitt Meadows Air Show senior boys tournament, which runs from Jan. 16-18, with the final at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Ramblers are another local team that will be taking part in that event.
The Marauders enter the season with some promise, and are listed as an honourable mention in the rankings of Top 10 teams in the 3A division this season, according to the BC High School Boys Basketball Association.
