The provincial masters curling championships will be in Maple Ridge starting Feb. 19.

Curl BC will present the 2025 BC Masters Curling Championships, set to take place at the Golden Ears Winter Club in Maple Ridge from Feb. 19-23.

The championships coincide with the Curling Day in Canada on Feb. 22, and will be a great way to mark the occasion.

The championships will feature 14 men’s and 8 women’s curling teams, consisting of curlers aged 60 or above. They will be competing for the opportunities to represent B.C. at the prestigious 2025 Canadian Masters Curling Championships from March 30 - April 6, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. One mens team and one womens team will qualify.

There are Golden Ears Winter Club members to cheer for on four men's teams. The Chris Luck Rink, featuring lead Keith Bonner, second Kevin Bonner and third Jim Kinnear represents the club, as does the Gary Mitchell Rink, with lead Cliff Wells, second Bob Asher, and third Bill Ard. There are other local curlers with teams from the Lower Mainland.

"We were awarded this Championship event a year ago so have been working towards hosting it since then," said Golden Ears Winter Club office manager Shannon Joanisse.

"The club has hosted several provincial Championship events, however it’s been since 2015 at which time the club hosted the Women’s Provincial Championships," Joanisse noted.

Maple Ridge Mayor Dan Ruimy and other distinguished guests will be in attendance at the opening ceremony, to be held on Feb. 18, starting at 2:45 p.m.

The men's and women's championship finals are scheduled for Feb. 23 at 1 p.m.

The club is also looking for volunteers to help with 50-50 raffle ticket sales, online scoring updates, and other tasks. Email manager@gewclub.ca
