Maple Ridge's annual Pumpkin Cross Halloween bike race is coming up.

The 2024 version of Maple Ridge's annual Pumpkin Cross bike race is now taking registrations.

The Halloween-themed cyclocross racing event has prizes for the fastest riders, and also for the best costumes. Past events have seen everyone from superheroes to Minions pedalling, or running while carrying their bikes over obstacles, in this unique race that is marked on the calendar of every fun-loving cyclocross racer.

The 16th annual race will be held on Oct. 27, and will be staged at the Albion Fairgrounds at 23448 Jim Robson Way in Maple Ridge. It is run each year by Local Ride Racing, and organizer Barry Lyster.

The race features a variety of classes for men and women, from novice to elite, and from youth to masters. Races will start at 9:30 a.m., and the last classes are scheduled to run at 2 p.m. Organizer Lyster said Pumpkin Cross aims to offer races for all ages and skill levels.

As in past years, there will be a women's racing clinic run by Sandra Walter, for registered riders only, and it will take place on Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. Walter is an elite mountain biker who has competed with Team Canada and for Liv Cycling – with Liv being one of sponsors of the event.

The deadline to register is Friday, Oct. 25, and this can be done online at bikereg.com
