A former Ridge Meadows Knights football star is making news as a prized prospect in the NCAA.
Blake Hebert moved to the U.S. at the age of 14 and his football career has blossomed. The young quarterback is making news this week for switching his commitment to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, from the Clemson Tigers.
He is currently a senior at Brunswick high school in Greenwich, Connecticut, and boasts a big arm and athleticism that make him a dual threat quarterback, capable of doing damage through the air or on the ground. He has had numerous offers from top programs in the NCAA. In a win on Saturday, Oct. 12, Hebert broke off a 91-yard run for a touchdown. He also had two passing touchdowns, leading his team to a perfect 5-0 start to the season.
Hebert is six-foot-three, 215 pounds, and ranked among the top 30 recruits in the current cycle. Sports outlets like ESPN have covered his decision to shift his sights from Clemson to Notre Dame.
"I'd like to start by thanking the Clemson coaching staff as well as the program itself for all they have done for me," Hebert wrote on X. "With that being said, I have chosen to withdraw my commitment and will spend my next 4 years at another institution."
His mother is from Maple Ridge, and his father Rickey Hebert was an Arena Football League quarterback from the U.S. The younger Hebert played with the Maple Ridge-based community football association. The family moved to the U.S., and Herbert played three seasons at Massachusetts Centre Catholic High School, but missed almost all of last season with an ankle fracture. He transferred to Brunswick for his grad year.
