When you want a sturdy surface that will hold up to wear and tear while offering a slip-resistant and attractive appearance, a new product at Maple Ridge's Smith Plywoods ticks all the boxes.
Available in 12mm and 18mm thicknesses, HEXA plywood is manufactured from birch veneers glued together in cross-banded construction, with a eucalyptus core and fully waterproof Type 1 (exterior) glue using Ultra Low Emission Formaldehyde. The panel is then coated with black film with an imprinted hexagonal friction pattern for a textured surface suited to outdoor locations or those where moisture can make surfaces slippery.
Selling for $75 (12mm) and $99 (18mm), HEXA plywood is useful for building movie sets and stages, sheds floors and recreation areas where slip resistance and decorative looks are required. Other common uses include commercial truck box interiors and truck floors, concrete forming and scaffolding loading platforms.
Of course, HEXA is just the latest among the array of everyday and specialty plywood and related materials that the family-owned Smith Plywoods has been known for since 1952. The Lower Mainland's only dedicated plywood lumber yard also stocks everything from utility-grade materials to exotic hardwoods like teak and khaya, marine plywood for boat repairs and marine projects, plus fire-rated plywood for electrical projects. And, with their move last fall to their new location, they now have twice as much space for inventory.
Building holiday creations – and memories
This time of year, plywood is also sought-after for seasonal DIY projects – it's strength and versatility make it an exceptional choice whether you're crafting chic, modern outdoor Christmas trees with plywood and paint, making one-of-a-kind ornaments for the tree, or crafting a "just-for-you" gift for someone special. Plywood is also perfect for projects with the kids or grandkids – maybe creating your own Christmas village for the mantel or hearth.
And because no one likes to be making multiple stops this time of year, you can start and finish the shopping for your project all in one place! As your plywood headquarters, Smith Plywoods is also your go-to source for stains, glues, drill bits, clamps, saw blades, wax pastes, caulking, conditioners and more ... everything your inner elf will need to complete your project.
