The much-loved 'everything show' – also known as the Ridge Meadows Home Show – is returning to Maple Ridge in May, and this year, they're bringing barbecue!
Returning to the Maple Ridge Fairgrounds May 2 to 4, home improvement and innovation remain at the heart of the show, but there’s also a whole lot more, including family activities, entertainment, carnival rides and food trucks.
And you better come hungry – Executive Director Graham Vanstone is excited to welcome two of Western Canada's most talented barbecue bosses for a head-to-head Rib Festival. GuerillaQ, from Chilliwack, and Gator BBQ will both be on hand all weekend, serving up their specialties, before facing off on Saturday to see who's the best of the best.
Other highlights back from last year include family-friendly mini-golf and foam parties, plus a highlight on the entertainment stage, Dane Szohner’s Michael Bublé tribute – check out all the planned activities for festival-goers of all ages here.
The show is renowned for its wide range of exhibitors and this year is no exception, with a whole host of newcomers among the more than 300 participating. Limited space is still available, and Vanstone encourages those with a unique business or interesting products to get in touch, especially local, home-based businesses.
“We bring the community together in a cost-effective way for local businesses to promote their services and products and we're really excited to showcase such a wide range of exhibitors,” he says.
The exhibition is strategically organized into different buildings, each dedicated to specific aspects of home improvement and lifestyle features. Browse heavy-duty construction materials in Building A and wellness and food products in the Marketplace, before exploring the latest in flooring, tiles, baths and artwork in Building C. The layout ensures visitors can easily find what they’re looking for, whether it’s renovating materials or the latest in home decor.
“There’s something different every day, at different hours, so take your time,” Vanstone advises. “It’s a two- or three-hour adventure, or even a whole day with kids and grandparents.”
Get involved: Volunteer & give back
Beyond businesses and attendees, the Ridge Meadows Home Show is a great place to volunteer and engage with the community. Both adults and youth are welcome – in fact, more than 100 students volunteer each year, appreciating the hands-on approach to learning about event management.
Volunteers can assist with admissions, staging, kitchen detail, exhibitor support, shuttle services or the Funzone children’s festival, and roles can be tailored to individual skills and availability. Service clubs, businesses and organizations can also contribute by trading exhibit space for volunteer hours or earning a cash donation for their support.
