Accident causes power outage in Maple Ridge

One person was taken to hospital after a vehicle lost control along Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge Wednesday afternoon.

The single vehicle accident took place at around 1:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Lougheed Highway near the intersection of 105th Avenue.

Traffic was reduced to a single lane along that stretch.

The vehicle hit a power pole knocking out power from Allard Crescent to 242 Street and from Glover Road to Cherrywood Drive.

There are 335 customers affected by the outage, including Thomas Haney secondary and Kanaka Creek elementary.

Hydro crews are on scene.

The estimated time for power to return to the area is 8 p.m..
